Acrylic Nails Ripped Off Nail

How to Identify and Treat a Torn Acrylic Nail

Signs of a Torn Acrylic Nail

One of the first signs that your acrylic nail has ripped off is pain or discomfort around your natural nail. A broken nail is not only disappointing but painful as well. If your real nail is also broken or ripped, you're inviting bacteria or fungus to enter the wound and cause an infection.

When my nail ripped off, it ranged from an uncomfortable twinge to excruciating pain. The pain was worse when I pressed on the nail or tried to move my finger. I also noticed some redness and swelling around the nail.

Treatment for a Torn Acrylic Nail

If you have a torn acrylic nail, it's important to treat it as soon as possible to prevent infection. Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Clean the wound. Use soap and water to gently clean the area around the torn nail. Be careful not to press on the nail or move your finger too much.
  2. Stop the bleeding. If the wound is bleeding, apply pressure to it with a clean cloth or bandage. Hold the pressure for a few minutes until the bleeding stops.
  3. Cover the wound. Once the bleeding has stopped, cover the wound with a bandage or gauze pad. This will help to protect the wound from infection and keep it clean.
  4. See a doctor. If the pain is severe, the wound is bleeding heavily, or you have any signs of infection, see a doctor as soon as possible.

Preventing Torn Acrylic Nails

There are a few things you can do to prevent your acrylic nails from tearing:

  • Be careful when filing your nails. Don't file them too thin or too short.
  • Avoid using your nails as tools. Don't use them to open cans or pry things open.
  • Wear gloves when you're doing chores that could damage your nails, such as gardening or cleaning.
  • Get regular manicures. A professional manicurist can help to keep your nails healthy and strong.
