Guilty Verdict in Chad Daybell Triple Murder Trial

Breaking News Update

A verdict has been reached in the highly-anticipated triple murder trial of Chad Daybell. At 3:31 pm ET, a jury in Idaho found Daybell guilty of the 2019 murders of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and his stepchildren, 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan.

Trial Details

The trial, which spanned nearly two months, saw the presentation of extensive evidence linking Daybell to the deaths. Prosecutors alleged that he killed his first wife in order to marry Lori Vallow, JJ and Tylee's mother. Daybell, a former member of a doomsday cult, believed that Tammy possessed evil spirits and needed to be eliminated.

Victims' Families

The victims' families have expressed relief over the verdict. JJ and Tylee's grandparents, Kay and Larry Woodcock, said they are "thrilled" with the jury's decision. "We're just so grateful that he's going to prison where he belongs," Kay Woodcock said.

Sentencing Phase

Daybell will now proceed to the sentencing phase of the trial. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
